I stumbled upon this beautiful story by Refe Tuma about parenting, imagination and dinosaurs today. It made my day and I just had to share it here.
Every year during the month of November, Refe and his wife try to convince the children their plastic dinosaurs come to life while they sleep. It began modestly with dinosaurs getting into the box of cereal, but quickly escalated with dinosaurs opening up the refrigerator and drawing on the walls. Here’s a couple of pictures of the sceneries they created:
Needless to say the kids were stunned every single day when they woke up. They started to make up their own stories and their imagination ran wild.
And that’s exactly what Refe and his wife were after. Here’s what they say about why they’re doing this:
“Because in the age of iPads and Netflix, we don’t want our kids to lose their sense of wonder and imagination. In a time when the answers to all the world’s questions are a web-search away, we want our kids to experience a little mystery. All it takes is some time and energy, creativity, and a few plastic dinosaurs.”
